What’s Storytelling All About?

It’s how we share who we are—our thoughts, feelings, and those “you had to be there” moments.

It’s a totally natural way to make sense of the world and connect with it.

It’s about swapping stories and exploring what makes us human.

What’s in a Story?

Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways we connect as humans. It’s how we share our experiences, build understanding, and form meaningful relationships. Here’s a closer look:

What is Storytelling?

The way we share who we are—our thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

A natural way to communicate and make sense of the world around us.

A way to explore and exchange our unique human experience

Why Do We Tell Stories?

To connect, create shared experiences, and deepen understanding.
To process and reflect on life’s events.
To share knowledge and open new perspectives.

Why is Storytelling Important?

It helps us understand ourselves and others on a deeper level. Stories bring meaning to our experiences and make them relatable.

Sharing stories builds trust and makes meeting new people feel easier.

How Does Storytelling Connect Us?

It breaks down barriers by showing our common humanity. Listening to others’ stories helps us see the world from new perspectives.

Stories create bonds, spark conversations, and make relationships more meaningful.

At Storytell Socials, we believe stories are at the heart of human connection. Whether you’re sharing a funny memory or a life-changing moment, your story matters. It’s through storytelling that we truly get to know each other.

What to Expect

Arriving

Hosts will arrive 30 minutes so feel free to come early and get comfortable. Hosts will check you in and provide you with drink tickets (if applicable) and the other items we have put together to make the most of the evening.

Mingling and intro activities

We ease into the event with some mingling (we'll provide some questions to make this easier) along with some casual activities to get everyone interacting and thinking about the theme.

Host Introduction

The hosts will introduce themselves and the event as well as go over the event structure and some general guidelines

Storytelling

We'll reconvene together for the storytell. There will be no set speaking order so you can take your turn any time you feel called to do so. After each share, there will be time for questions and offer supportive, and positive comments. Depending on attendance, there may be a time limit per share.

Post-Event

After the event, depending on the venue, it will remain open for continued mingling. You will have the option to join our WhatsApp community to stay in touch.

“The shortest distance between two people is a story.”

How to Tell a Story

Telling your story is easier than you think! Here's a quick guide to help you share if you're looking for some inspiration. Please keep in mind that these are just guidelines in case you need it but it's your story so if you want to tell it a different way, go for it!

Start with your reason

What made you want to tell this story? Was it something funny, touching, surprising, or life-changing? i.e. Open with a sentence that hooks your audience: “There’s this moment I’ll never forget...”

Set the scene

Share just enough details to paint a picture: Where were you? Who else was there? What was happening around you? Keep it simple - your audience can fill in the blanks!

Sprinkle in some personal touch

What happened next? Take us on the journey. Add emotions: How did you feel in that moment? How did others react? Keep it personal and authentic—it’s your story, and that’s what makes it special.

Make it relatable

Why does this story matter to you? Think about the bigger picture: Is it about a lesson learned, a connection made, or something unexpected? Even small stories can carry a big message!

Wrap it up

Close with a takeaway, a moment of reflection, or even a laugh.
Example: “And that’s how I found my best friend in the most unexpected place!”

✨ Quick Tips for Sharing

Stories don't have to be super long - it’s long enough to engage and get the essence of the story but short enough to keep the energy alive.

Be yourself: Your story doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.

Make eye contact if you're comfortable: Look around the room—your story is for everyone!

Relax: It’s a friendly crowd and there is no right or wrong way to do this! Everyone is here to connect and celebrate stories.
